Tic Tac Toe

Tic Tac Toe

That’s the first thing I did on my second week of work…I played Tic Tac Toe, with my boss.

We weren’t in the same room, we weren’t even in the same city, but there we were, playing Tic Tac Toe.

I was on my mobile phone, he was using kapp iQ.

I squealed when I saw this in action!

mapleI mean it…I squealed…like a child in a candy store or like when I discovered maple bacon donuts.

Lest you think it was because of my love for Tic Tac Toe, let me assure you, it was because I immediately saw the possibilities with this technology.

Can you imagine it?

Someone in Anchorage is writing on a board, his colleague in Taiwan is seeing this and can easily add her thoughts to the board. The team in Australia sees it and adds their ideas too.

Whether it is global usage or simply across campus, this is super cool, change the world technology.

Kapp iQ is one of the many business solutions brought to us from SMART Technologies. It is a portable, free standing board available in 55 or 65 inch displays. By capturing the QR code, the host is able to invite people to join the meeting visually, meaning they can see what he/she writes on the board. The participants, provided they are using a cellular or Internet connection, only has to accept the invitation and voila, they are now a part of the kapp iQ meeting. Everyone participating has the chance to input their ideas on the board and see others’ ideas in real time.

As a trainer and facilitator, I know all too well the need for visual cues to keep mere mortals engaged and, therefore, I have a strong desire to share my thoughts and ideas visually.

As a visual learner, I know my limitations when only audio communication is in place and I yearn for something to look at and write on.

What I liked most about the kapp iQ board is that while it has the same “behind the scenes magic” as a SMART Board, it is a simpler, very practical and affordable board. There is no need to use anything fancy to get people connected…it’s all in there. All you need is to power and an Internet connection.

Kapp iQ isn’t a replacement for the SMART Board; keep your SMART Boards for your board rooms, training rooms, etc. (but for goodness sake, start using them more).

Rather, kapp iQ is a practical and affordable tool to have in your office, smaller training rooms, sales rooms, etc.

kapp iqKapp iQ enables two-way communication (shoot, it enables multi-way communication of up to 250 participants) and this sets it apart from traditional uses of long distance technology.

There is no training needed! Kapp iQ is as simple as a piece of flip chart paper but has the power of a whole stack of paper! And unlike flip charts, where you have to manually record everything into your databases/files after the fact, kapp iQ sessions are easily recorded, converted into a file, and kept for prosperity in real time.

I lost the Tic Tac Toe game, by the way, or maybe I let my new boss win. Who cares! What’s important is that I got to see and use this super cool collaborative tool.

  • If you have the need to meet with people remotely, quickly, and without fanfare,
    kapp iQ is for you.
  • If you have traditionally had to limit your meetings to an audio connection because you didn’t have a SMART Board and collaborate software to connect everyone in, kapp iQ is for you.
  • If you want to share an idea, drawing, or concept with a client across town – shoot, if you want to play Tic Tac Toe with him/her but don’t have the time to drive to them, kapp iQ is for you.

Hurry up, get yourself kapp iQ! And when you do, let’s play Tic Tac Toe! I hope you don’t mind if I play from a beach, in Spain, with a maple bacon donut. 🙂
